Derwent Water

Here's a photo I took the other day at Derwent Water in Keswick. It was a lovely late afternoon stroll and the water was incredibly still allowing for almost perfect reflections. The blue of the afternoon light reflects the cold winter season.

Derwent water is full of wildlife. Numerous birds make their home along on the lake and the lake side. Approaching the lake from Keswick you are greeted by geese, ducks and swans, and continuing your journey along the lake you will see lots of smaller birds including robins, sparrows and goldfinches.

Keswick is a popular tourist destination. The local population increases from roughly 5,000 people to 50,000 over the summer months as visitors to the Lake District pick the slate-styled, outdoor-shop filled town as their destination. It is one of my favourite places to visit as the architecture is beautiful and Derwent water is literally a five minute walk from the town centre.

Keswick is also home to Theatre by the Lake, a must visit for any fan of the arts. Check out the website here - https://www.theatrebythelake.com/ I have seen a number of performances there and I really recommend visiting. Another place I recommend is The Old Keswickian for food. This is one of the best Fish and Chips shops I've ever been too. Yes there is an array of local pubs, cafes and even a Wetherspoons, but nothing beats a proper hearty, British portion of chips. Plus, they offer take out and eat in options.
