The Lake District was treated today to the incredibly strange and rare phenomenon of good weather. It is no secret that weather in the North West of England isn't particularly favourable (there is a reason for all of the lakes). With this in mind and a forecast promising sunshine, me and my parents decided to head through to Keswick and walk from Derwent Water along to the Ladore Falls for lunch.
The weather held out and it ended up being a particularly lovely day. However we were faced with a number of obstacles. A previous storm on Friday left many patched of the path flooded and muddy. Note to all walkers in the Lake District: Always wear sturdy waterproof shoes. There is also a point where the usual path ends and, unless you wish to turn back, you have to scale a cliff face to get to the main road. Although not for children or older ramblers, the climb isn't over-complicated - even inexperienced climbers like myself and my Mum were able to complete the climb.
Whilst out we saw a large number of Robins. It clearly been a bumper year for their population. Amazing to see them so close as well, all happy to have their photos taken in the exchange of a little snack. Distinguishable by their beautiful red breast, its easy to see why they were voted the nations favourite bird.
